GRADES K-3

Engineering Explorations (K-3)

Calling all builders! Using a variety of materials, we will spend our class sessions building a variety of structures such as towers, buildings, bridges, boats, and vehicles. Some of our activities will have specific instructions and some will be very open to creativity. Students will be encouraged to consider how to improve their designs. Join us for this very hands-on class!

Elementary Sign Language (K-4)

This interactive class is packed with lots of movement, games and play. Whether your child is learning for the first time or you’re coming back for more, this fun class will dive into American Sign Language vocabulary through songs, poems, Scripture and many activities that make learning fun. There are lots of opportunities to build on vocabulary, common phrases, and beginning conversational skills. Get ready to have lots of fun as we sing, sign, and learn.

The Science of Art and Nature   (K-3)

In this Earth science class, we will see how God designed our world and everything within it. We’ll learn about geology, landforms, the water cycle, the atmosphere, etc. We’ll explore outside and make lots of arts, crafts, and STEM activities.

Creative Kids  (K-3)

Our Creative Kids class will learn the 6 elements of art – Line, Value, Space, Color, Shape, Texture – through weekly lessons & fun art projects. We will connect award winning children’s authors, illustrators, and famous artists to each element of art to spark inspiration and creativity. These creative kids will:

  • Build & acquire new art skills
  • Learn art vocabulary
  • Explore & mix different kinds of media
  • Collaborate with others
  • Express creativity & listen to their inner artist

Come explore the exciting world of animals! We will study many of God’s unique creatures while playing fun games and making crafts. We will also explore being veterinarians and treating patients.

Loving Language, Writing, and Speech! (2-6)

In this class we will study types of writing, parts of speech, grammar, punctuation, and public speaking. We will have plenty of fun games to play and time to share!

Medieval History (3-6)

In Medieval History we will design our own castles, and make armor. We’ll read about feudalism, medieval art, and inventions like the printing press. We’ll see how we would like to live during the Renaissance, and of course, have stories, arts, crafts, and games.

Geology (4-8)

Join us as we discover the wonderfully designed earth! This geology class will explore the layers of the earth, tectonic plates, volcanoes, earthquakes, rocks, minerals, hydrothermal features, and local geology. Our weeks will be filled with hands-on activities, maps, and models. Course does not address geologic time.

Middle School Sign Language (4-8)

Did you know that American Sign Language is the third most commonly used language in the United States, after English and Spanish? We will dive into sign language by exploring books, songs, poems & Scripture. This interactive class allows you to learn vocabulary, the history of ASL and their culture & communication skills. Come learn this beautiful and fun language while enhancing your cognition, creative thinking, memory, and much more.

In this class we will be telling stories through various dance styles including ballet and jazz. Each class we will learn different skills and techniques which will be used to learn a dance or two by the end of each semester. No dance experience is necessary!

Digital Art (6-12)

Dip your toes in graphic design and digital art! In semester 1, we will learn how to use the popular app Canva to modify pictures, create graphics, icons, collages, flyers, and posters.

In semester 2, we will use the app Tayasui Sketches to create original digital paintings and sketches. You will learn about layers, transparent backgrounds, the difference between brushes, and how to best share your paintings for others to view them.

Each semester will end with a digital art show for parents and families to view. The digital art show will be both online and in person, so you can share your student’s work with family members who may not be local!

  • Ipad or tablet with Canva app and Tayasui Sketches installed

Aslan’s Country: Writing with Structure and Style (6-12)

In this class we will combine writing and literature as we read the last 4 novels in The Chronicles of Narnia and utilize the IEW method to learn advanced writing skills. Students will present their writing to the class each week, as well as some assignments related to vocabulary building, researching and note-taking. For students in 6th or 7th grades, previous IEW experience is recommended.

Psychology from a Christian Perspective and CLEP prep (7-12)

The course will give an overview of psychology from the brain and how it works, perception, genetics, learning, theories of personality, abnormal psychology, and much more! Through reading, videos, assignments, games, and activities, this class will help to prepare students interested in testing out of college psychology by taking the CLEP exam.

Introduction to Sociology and CLEP prep

This course will cover basic facts and concepts as well as general theoretical approaches used by sociologists on topics of institutions, social patterns, social processes, social stratification, and the sociological perspective. Through reading, videos, games and activities, this class is designed to assist students in preparing for the Introduction to Sociology CLEP exam for college credit.

Geometry (9-12)

Julie Bjerrgaard

Learn about proofs, angles, congruency, polygons, area and volume, construction, coordinate geometry and more! This teacher-led class will meet daily to ensure student comprehension and success! We use Zoom and Google Classroom to meet daily, receive assignments, and submit pictures of our work. The daily live class is at 10 am when not meeting in person at Bright Rising, but this can be modified if enough students cannot meet at that time. Every class is recorded and posted on Google Classroom for absent students to view at their leisure, or if a student wants to rewatch a concept for better understanding. Daily homework will be assigned. Quizzes and tests will be completed, and a semester exam will end each semester. This course is a full high school Geometry course that will prepare your student for the SAT/ACT or college entrance exams.

Middle/highschool $250/semester $500/yr

$50 non-refundable registration fee one time per year.
